For those who haven’t heard, lovely Ginny is leaving us, so there is a vacancy to fill. We’ve been asked to give more details, so here goes:
Katherine and Anya are seeking a new recruit for Daisybell to fill that all-important role that makes this group special: the group has always been primarily about three-part harmony. If you are a fan of harmony singing, please read on…..
Basically, we need someone to sing the low notes – but it’s close harmony, so if you’re a guy then you’d better have a high tenor range! We would prefer someone who can figure out their own harmony lines, but don’t let that rule you out if you can’t – we can help.
Instrumental skills would be a definite advantage, but again, it won’t rule you out if all you can do is tap a triangle.
You will need transport and enough time in your schedule to allow for performances around the country, speculative visits to Midlands folk clubs (unpaid), group rehearsals (always includes lunch!) and lots of practice at home.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you need a good sense of humour …. That might already be obvious!
Please message us, or speak to us personally for more information….
We are having a different kind of summer, in many senses. We have cut down festival appearances to just a handful. One of these is Warwick Folk Festival where we will once again be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest which this year has a theme of “Elvis” songs – look out for that one if you are at the festival.
And we have created some space for ourselves, as Katherine has accidentally written a Folk-Opera! Inspired by the soon to be released book, The Undoing of Polly Button by local writer, Stephen Moore, there are now fourteen songs and a narrative! Daisybell will be helping Steve to promote the book and also joining in with the celebrations in Nuneaton to mark 200 years since the birth of George Eliot. So we have a couple of outdoor gigs planned (come on, sunshine), beginning on the morning of Sunday 14 June 10.30, as part of a murder walk at Nuneaton’s Food Festival – so no chance of any confusion there then! Look out here and on social media for other Polly Button related appearances.
Meanwhile, here’s a nice picture of us having fun supporting Rosie Calvert and Will Finn at Bedworth Folk Club.
No we haven’t just invested in new instruments (although Anya has a new guitar lead!), or clothes, or a narrowboat! We are gearing up for some special projects this Autumn. We are taking a break from performing for the next couple of months in order to work on a new video, and to revisit our Christmas/Winter programme of songs. Some exciting gigs are already coming in for 2019, but more of that later……….
We have a double-header gig with our friends, The Teacups on 28 September at Tump Folk Club, Humber Pub, Humber Road, Coventry CV3 1BA. This will be followed by a return visit to their neck of the woods (the north-east) later in the year.
